Mike Alley is the owner of Patriot Investments, LLC, through which he conducts an array of business consulting and investment initiatives. He also is the owner of Electronic Evolutions, Inc., one of the nation’s leading custom designers and installers of consumer electronics, media and control devices in residential and commercial environments. Alley has remained active in numerous business and civic activities since his retirement in 2002 from Fifth Third Bank of Central Indiana, an affiliate of Fifth Third Bancorp, where he served as president and chief executive officer.
While leading Fifth Third Bank, Alley significantly increased the financial institution’s presence in Indiana from 1989 through 2002. He spearheaded the organization’s strategic growth through the acquisition of The New Palestine Bank to acquire more than $4.8 billion in assets and establish the largest state-chartered bank in Indiana.
Alley joined Fifth Third Bancorp in 1985 as vice president and city executive for Dayton, Ohio. Prior to joining the bank, he worked for Bank of America in Austin, Texas, and for KPMG, LLC in Cincinnati, Ohio. Alley graduated magna cum laude from Indiana State University and is a certified public accountant.
Alley remains very active in civic and community activities and currently serves on numerous boards including Crossroads of America Council, Boy Scouts of America, Community Health Network of Indiana, The Indiana Heart Hospital, Indiana State University, The Indy Partnership, Indianapolis Zoological Society, Highland Golf and Country Club and the United Way of Central Indiana. He also is on several corporate boards including AAA Hoosier Motor Club; Fifth Third Bank, Indiana; Golden Rule Insurance Company; Leaf Partners, LLC; Griner Engineering, Inc.; and G & A Foods, Inc.
Jerre L. Stead became Executive Chairman of IHS Inc. December 1, 2000. He led IHS to a very successful IPO in November of 2005. IHS is a global leader in its industry. He currently serves as chairman and CEO.
He joined Ingram Micro in 1996 as Chairman and CEO with a proven track record and is characterized as having great vision and global expertise. Mr. Stead took Ingram Micro public on November 1, 1996, which, at that time, was the largest IPO in history for a technology company. Under his leadership Ingram Micro grew from an eight billion dollar company to a 30 billion dollar company doing business in over 120 countries. The company was number 41 in the Fortune 500 for the year 2000.
Mr. Stead began his career in 1965 at Honeywell, Inc., where he spent 21 years and held a number of executive management positions in the United States and Europe. Mr. Stead was the Chairman and CEO of Honeywell-Phillips Medical Electronics from September 1980 to June 1982. He returned to the United States as a group executive of the Homes and Buildings organizations in July of 1982.
In 1987, he was named President and COO of the Square D Company, a leading manufacturer of electrical distribution and factory automation products. He was promoted to Chairman, President and CEO in 1988 and served in that capacity through 1991.
In 1992, Mr. Stead was named Chief Executive Officer of AT&T Global Business Communications Systems. He was promoted to Executive Vice President of AT&T and Chairman and CEO of AT&T Global Information Solutions (NCR Corporation) in 1993. He was a member of AT&T Management Executive Committee. During this time Mr. Stead was also the chairman of NCR Japan, a publicly traded company.
In January of 1995, Mr. Stead left AT&T to become Chairman and CEO of Legent Corporation. He resigned eight months later after a successful merger with Computer Associates.
Mr. Stead is a graduate of the University of Iowa where he earned his BBA, and of the Harvard University Advanced Management Program in Switzerland. Mr. Stead has been on 30 corporate boards during his career. Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors for the following companies: Brightpoint; Conexant; IHS; Mindspeed. Mr. Stead also serves on the Salk Institute Board of Directors, and is Chairman of the Banner Alzheimer’s Institute and the Garrett Evangelical Seminary. He is a past Chairman of the National Electronic Manufacturers Association and the Center of Ethics and Values at the Garrett Seminary.
Eugene R. "Gene" Tempel assumed the presidency of the Indiana University Foundation on September 1, 2008. A nationally recognized expert in the study and practice of philanthropy and nonprofit management, Dr. Tempel has been named by The NonProfit Times to its list of the country’s 50 most influential leaders in the nonprofit sector each year since the list was created.
Executive Director of the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University since 1997, Dr. Tempel was closely involved with the Center since its inception in 1987. The Center is headquartered on the Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) campus and serves as a leading national resource for education, research, training, and public service programs pertaining to the nonprofit sector.
Dr. Tempel’s career as a nonprofit professional includes more than two decades in higher education administration, fundraising, and teaching. Prior to leading the Center on Philanthropy, he served IU as director of external affairs for the College of Arts and Sciences at IU-Bloomington, vice president-Indianapolis for the IU Foundation, executive director of the Fund Raising School, and vice chancellor for external affairs at IUPUI. Dr. Tempel holds faculty appointments in higher education and philanthropic studies in the IU Schools of Education, Liberal Arts, and Public and Environmental Affairs.
A member of several nonprofit and for-profit boards, Dr. Tempel is a past chair of the Indiana Commission on Community Service and Volunteerism. He was the first elected president of the Nonprofit Academic Centers Council, a national organization of university centers dedicated to teaching, research, and service related to philanthropy.
Often quoted as a spokesperson for the philanthropic and nonprofit sector, Dr. Tempel is an author and co-author of several works in the field and an award-winning leader. The late Indiana governor Frank O’Bannon recognized Dr. Tempel's service to Indiana by naming him a Sagamore of the Wabash. In 2007, he received the prestigious James L. Fisher Award for Distinguished Service to Education from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). Dr. Tempel was also awarded the IUPUI Alumni Association’s Maynard K. Hine Medal, which honors distinguished alumni for continuous service to IUPUI and Indiana University.
He earned a BA degree in English and philosophy from St. Benedict College, an MA in English, and a doctoral degree in higher education administration from Indiana University, and holds the Certified Fund Raising Executive professional designation.
